Bittersweet Symphony

Blogger (John Scalzi) a few days ago asked his readers in a post entitled: Busy With a Deadline Today, So Keep Yourself Busy With This Question.

What is your favorite relentlessly popular song?

By which I mean: The song that everyone knows (or did know, at the time), that took over the world in its day, which may or may not be good, depending on your definition of these things, but which you still listen to all the way through every time you hear it.

Another blogger that I know at The Deroche Decibel 🙂 posted their choice Smells Like Teen Spirit for favourite relentless popular song:

I would have to say that mine is The Verve‘s Bittersweet Symphony. When I hear the strings come in I know what to expect and the journey I will go on. I may be a bit biased since I am a fan of The Verve and have followed their music career from the start. I regret not seeing them at Lollapalooza in the early 90’s (1993?). They played one of the side stages and I didn’t clue in at the time. That being said I still to this day haven’t seem them live.
